First of all, I hope everyone took the time to vote today. I have to admit that, sicne I turned 18, there times, years, when I did not vote but I gave it a great deal of thought as of late and I think it important to vote as many people put in a lot of work and such to get us all the right to vote. Also, voting can truly make. For instance, the kids at my school were doing a mock election this election and in the front of their voters guide is talked about the various elections where one vote truly made a difference, such as with Thomas Jefferson and Aaron Burr. As someone who had admittedly grown cynical with the whole political process such information was really eye opening and reaffirming.

a nice monday, but, of course, everyday is nice and great.

so, yeah, I saw the movie Flags of our Fathers and it was veyr good. I would like to give a long review, as I have a good amount I could say of the film but in the interrests of those who might not have seen it yet I will just say the direction by Clint Eastwood was excellent and the acting of Ryan Phillipe, Jesse Bradford, Adam Beach, and Paul Walker, among others, was suberb. Highly recommended.

Hiatus

I just wanted to take a moment to say I will be putting this blog on a brief hiatus, as I am dealing with some medical issues and am on doctor's orders to remain on bed rest until at least Monday.

My hiatus may last longer than Monday depending on what I hear from the doctor's that day, but, again, I will not be able to post until Monday at the earliest.

Sunday Fun

Well, I promised some reviews/ recommendations, so here they are:

The other day I watched a movie called Edison Force, and it is a lot of fun. It stars Morgan Freeman, Kevin Spacey, LL Cool J, and, um, Justin Timberlake, who is actually a really good actor. Highly recommended.

And today I saw the new Martin Scorcese film The Departed, with Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Jack Nicholson, and Mark Wahlberg. It was, in a word, great and very intense. It is probably the best new film I have seen all year. As there is a lot going on in it and I don't want to give anything away, I will just say that all of the actors are excellent but Leonardo and Marky Mark really stand out. Highly Recommended.

As for books, I am currently reading (well, it is one of the books I am currently reading) The Emperor Gaius by J.P.V.D. Baldson, it was first published in 1934, and is a history of the Roman emperor Gaius, more famously known as Caligula. As I am a great student of Roman history, Caligula is quite a fascinating figure to me and, indeed, I have already read a few books about him and this one provides further insights into the man. Highly Recommended.

Though there is a lot of music that I love, one album that I really like is Gustav Mahler's Fifth Symphony. Highly Recommended.

Blog Mission Statement/ Statement of Purpose

As you may, or may not, have noticed, I have not been blogging with any great frequency as ops late. This is due to the fact that I been incredibly busy with various things but something very interesting happened in the interim: I have decided to revise the purpose and, therefore, the contents of this blog.

It seems that, rather than just feature mundane ramblings that I may be the only who gets and, indeed, with apologies, are a common feature of many blogs, I should do something a bit more to mine.

With that said, I will have some "mundane ramblings" but I am also going to have things like, but certainly not limited to, movie, book, and music reviews. I will have recommended facets of those each day or week, such as a recommended movie, book, or CD. This is something that, I believe, will distinction and flavor to this blog.

Another thing I have been very with busy lately is my writing. I have always really loved to write and have been, for a lack of a better term, prolific, but it is something I have not done as much in recent years and and I have found myself really getting back into it. I like to write a bit of everything but some of what I am currently involved with is a mystery and a historical piece that takes place in ancient Greece, Egypt, and Rome. To further enhance this blog, I may also serialize one or more of these stories on my blog.

This is really great and if you think that they look short of silly, keep in mind they were 15-1 and won the superbowl 46-10. This all is without even a mention of the fact that they have what the considered the best defense ever.

To blog or not to blog...

With the advent of blogs, it is very interesting to note the ways in which, in many cases, they are an online version of diaries and journals. Further, one noted element of said diaries and journals is that they are largely, if not altogether, meant for the author's eyes only, while the very existence of a blog seems to be based on the concept that it will be viewed by others.

Having said that, my blog, as stated in first post, will detail activies in my day to day life and my feelings and such on them; given that I run into and find myself involved in more ususual situations than you might at first think, it should provide, at the very least, a passably enjoyable experience. Well, that, and it sure beats walkin'.

In the simple act of detaling these experiences, though, I can't but wonder if I will missing out on many fascinating events that might even make for all the more fascinating blog material. Shucks, I guess I'll find out.
